Educator's Opinions

Below are a collection of comments we have received from Teachers, including those working in Special Needs environments, Speech Therapists and Educational Therapists.

"Since I've been working (as a speech and language pathologist) I've used Letterland to help children with speech and language delays develop correct speech patterns in conjunction with early reading and writing skills. I think the speech and language therapists of the world who work with preschool and school age children would greatly benefit from access to your programme."

"You might be interested to learn that "Letterland" has been the mainstay of our remedial reading/writing/spelling program here at St John's since 1981. Letterland, suitably adapted to the age of the child (which can range from six to twelve years), is an important element in our battery of remedial tools. For me the most rewarding child to take through into literacy was a boy who was brain-damaged at birth. His parents were told he would never speak. When I met him he was speaking, but clueless at 9 about the printed word. I doubt if I could have helped him enough without Letterland. In due course he went back to England and achieved three A levels!"

All the good practices Dr Sally Shaywitz describes in her excellent book Overcoming Dyslexia match what Letterland does! Letterland is the best!

"I've taught over 25 years, and have tried lots of different reading programs, so I know when I have struck gold. Believe me, Letterland is gold. My dream would be to start a whole Letterland school in this area."

"It pushes all the right buttons with the kids and the characters, letters and stories become part of play, school and of their lives. The whole family, including long distance grandparents also join in."

"This is my first year teaching kindergarten. I have been using Letterland and am very pleased with the excitement it has brought into our classroom."

"We have been using Letterland in our school for the past ten years and we find it really brilliant. It makes reading so much easier for the children and it is also so much fun that they enjoy it immensely."

I am so impressed, because this is a fantastic way to teach literacy, especially when there are so many different languages spoken in this country (Namibia).

I am using a vertical learning style and working with children in years 3, 4 and 5. The age variance means that I am strictly working with what they already know and giving them the knowledge (or visual) of how to remember rules they forget. So far the children are really, really keen...

"Children have different learning styles - visual, kinaesthetic and auditory but Letterland addresses all those methods... Also, the rate of acquisition of the consonant sounds was wonderful. A lot of my seniors left reading...I am confident sending my students to grade 1 knowing they are ready. Your program made a great difference."

"Our children come from a low economic background and often start school with very poor language skills and very few life experiences outside the home. This makes teaching them to read a challenge. I introduced Letterland to my class and the school three years ago. It became an instant hit with the children, other staff members and parents. Our children respond especially well to the music content."

"I am truly impressed with the powers of Letterland - the children never seem to grow tired of it!"

"About 10 years ago, I had my first teaching job in England at a small first school in Hampshire. As an American, I was new to Letterland, but loved it for its creativity and the way it made reading fun. I no longer teach children, but remember the time I spent with Letterland fondly, and recommend it to parents and friends here in the States."

Ex-teacher, USA

Letterland is the answer to my prayers!!!!! It works wonders with so many of my students, in particular those with dyslexia! Even my older students love it because they can visualize the characters which is the only way they can finally see/understand/remember the various relationships these letters have and how they affect one another. Letterland is the single best tool in my toolbox for helping these students who have not been able to 'crack the code' in any other way! I'm thrilled!!

Special Needs Tutor, USA

I'm very happy with the program since it helps especially the ESL children in my classes. All children love the programme and are very motivated by the characters and the stories of the Letterlanders. Thank you for an excellent programme, that is easy to follow and very flexible.

"I have previously worked in the education dept for 8 years. The last school I worked at used Letterland. What an excellent program to use... I worked in special education, this is so easy to teach and for students to pick up, and understand. Well done!!"

Teacher, Australia

"I am a teaching assistant. I learned about Letterland at a "Professional Development Day" In-service. I started using the Letterland Program with one special needs student. It has been amazing the progress he has made in a short period of time. Most of all he loves the characters, making the rest of the teaching much easier."
