We all know that young children learn best when they are having fun so what could be better than a creative and colourful activity book that combines learning how to paint, fold, trace, stick and cut with the teaching of early literacy skills? Published 1 April 2010 and drawing on Letterland’s extensive experience of producing high-quality phonics books, Things to Make & Do contains twenty-six simple and varied activities, each focused on one of the much-loved Letterland characters, designed to help develop key areas of your child’s skills – language, literacy, numeracy, communication and physical development.

Run around with Red Robot’s Exercise Routine! Impress your friends with Impy Ink’s Invisible Ink! Fancy a go at making Firefighter Fred’s Funky Frames? Why not tackle Talking Tess’s Tomato Puppet? Whatever you choose, you will find that each page not only includes a full list of what is required for the activity and clear instructions on how to do it but also alliterative language for each chosen letter and a series of stimulating questions that will get your child thinking about the letter in hand. And, when you have finished all of the activities in the book, there is a page that includes suggestions for twenty-six more!

Presented in an easy-to-use, wipe-clean ring-binder format, Things to Make & Do is a book that both you and your child will want to return to again and again.

Lisa Holt, Author and Head Designer at Letterland International, was presented with The Gourmand Best in the World Award for The Letterland Cookbook - An Alphabet of Recipes, in the Best Children and Family Cookbook category. She was in good company, alongside Jamie Oliver who won the Award for Best Food Television Producer.

After receiving her award from Monsieur Edouard Cointreau, President, Lisa Holt said “We are all delighted that the Letterland Cookbook has received this prestigious award, particularly as there was such stiff competition from across the world. We are so proud to be able to produce a book that helps young children to learn to cook and read at the same time!”

Bringing together two of the country’s hottest topics – phonics and healthy eating – Managing Director of Letterland, Mark Wendon, said, “What could be better than a fun and functional book that teaches children the benefits of a balanced diet whilst developing their listening, speaking and literacy skills at the same time?”
