What is Educan?
Educan was started in 1996 by Linda Drecun, a Kindergarten teacher with the Toronto District School Board. A few years earlier she had been given a Kindergarten position after teaching French for many years, and discovered Letterland during a vacation in England.
Linda was pleased to have found a phonics instruction method which she and her children loved and which resulted in such amazing literacy scores, and subsequently informed colleagues. As usage of Letterland increased throughout the city, Linda decided to officially promote it and began Educan, becoming the Canadian distributor.
In 1998 Linda retired from teaching and in 2000 was joined by Susan Goddard, a Toronto Kindergarten teacher who was also using Letterland. Word spread, more and more teachers and parents across Canada started using this wonderful phonics system, and Educan grew. In 2004, Linda retired and Susan became sole owner.
Today Educan is a thriving business with almost two thousand customers across Canada, and a growing number of provincial sales agents. A full range of Letterland products are carried and supported by excellent customer service, including presentations and consultation before ordering, to training workshops afterwards.
Teachers, homeschooling parents, language practitioners and parents alike have told us that they are not only delighted with the results they see from using Letterland, but are extremely satisfied with the service which Educan continues to provide.
Susan Goddard
Susan Goddard has taught Kindergarten, music and Reading Recovery. She came into the teaching profession with a varied background in business, music and theatre. While volunteering in her own children's classrooms for many years, Susan developed an interest in how children learn to read, and she subsequently became a teacher. Susan has now retired from the teaching profession, and is devoting her energies to business once again as the president of Educan, the Letterland distributor in Canada.
